本教材編寫中以英國歷史文化發展為線索，展現英國各段歷史進程中的國家概況，既訓練語言技能，也豐富相關知識。涉及系統的歷史內容，説明讀者瞭解英國各段歷史時期的重大事件，系統介紹英國歷史文化發展背景。本次改版對難度有所調整，並增加教師資源包，以適應不同層次學生的需要。根據閱讀材料的時效性進行增刪。改版中增加“互聯網 ”因素， 通過二維碼呈現網路資源，增強文化類教材的特色。本書適用於英語專業一、二年級學生，也適用于具有中學英語基礎的非英語專業學生和英語愛好者學習。
常俊躍，大連外國語大學教授、博士生導師。主持並完成國家哲學社會科學項目“英語專業基礎階段內容依託式教學改革研究”，主持國家社會科學基金專案立項“內容依託教學理論指導下英語專業整體課程體系的改革與實踐研究”。 負責的專業獲國家特色專業建設點。
夏洋，大連外國語大學教授、學科規劃處處長。發表學術論文二十餘篇，主持遼寧省社科基金專案兩項，遼寧省教育廳人文社科項目一項，作為重要參與人參加國家社科基金項目兩項，其他省部級專案十余項。主編圖書十余部，其中《美國歷史文化》和《英國歷史文化》分別獲批“十二五”國家規劃教材和遼寧省“十二五”規劃教材。
趙永青，大連外國語大學教授。1989年進入大連外國語學院工作，2003年至2010年任大連外國語學院英語學院副院長、院長。後任大連外國語大學（2013年更名為大連外國語大學）《外語與外語教學》雜誌主編。目前兼任中國英語寫作教學研究會常務理事，中國英語演講教學研究會常務理事，英語專業評估委員會評估專家等職務，曾任天津科技大學、哈爾濱師範大學、南京農業大學客座教授。
