何謂「多元文化教育」？有人認為多元文化教育是文化理解的教育，有人認為多元文化教育是實踐社會正義的教育，多元文化教育正如其名，有多元的意義與取向。本書介紹當今多元文化教育經典著作並進行深入導讀，主題涵蓋多元文化教育的理論、研究與實踐面向，反映批判、差異與關懷的聲音。閱讀本書，將有助於瞭解多元文化教育的意義與重要論述，反思台灣重要的多元文化教育議題，發展多元文化課程與教學實踐策略，並且啟發具批判性的多元文化意識。台灣中小學的多元文化教育不能只停留在「多元文化週」的文化展演活動，期待本書能提供讀者一個與多元文化論述對話的平台，以開展更具批判意味的多元文化教育精神。
