Book Description:

The Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic created an unprecedented chain of circumstances across the globe that were extremely volatile, presenting considerable uncertainty, creating immense confusion and infinite ambiguity. Business owners and management had to make decisions on situations never encountered before. One circumstance after another produced scenarios that required business operators to "reset" their thinking in the different spheres of business management.

The purpose of this book serves to share experiences, create awareness, and educate readers about the considerations of best practices in managing and mitigating crisis-related challenges in the retail and shopping mall industry in Malaysia. It serves to document a moment in time when the world literally stood still. The book aims to be a source of practical and theoretical reference for the management of retail businesses, shopping malls, and a wide spectrum of varying business sectors.

Every uncertainty requires unique solutions that involve keen observation, adaptability, and flexibility for effective resolution. The book is a collection of tried-and-tested measures, leadership styles, business intelligence, and other pre-emptive measures. It aims to equip mall managers, retail business owners, and otherwise interested readers with relevant information and examples that have worked in real-life situations amidst the pandemic. The author believed the book comes at an opportune time. While this book may not solve every COVID-19 or similar crisis-related problem faced in the retail and mall industry, it is a comprehensive documentation on getting started with a strategic guide to better crisis planning and management.

Through author's observation throughout the pandemic, He has documented various details that the Malaysian shopping mall industry encountered, the kind of leadership required, and the practices it took to navigate through the crisis “minefields” in areas of decision-making - striving to maintain the delicate balance between “lives and livelihood.” Readers will get to understand in some depth how the pandemic has changed the shopping mall industry and the essential steps necessary to equip the parties involved.
