建築氣象學：氣候現形

   
　　──當氣候成為設計思考的一個環節，空間就成了「氣象學空間」；
　　透過空間與材質，我們試圖找到「氣候」與「建築」的嶄新聯繫。
 
　　人們的空間經驗，比起理性地辨識空間性質，往往更著眼於身體對環境的直接感受。比如，在炎熱的街道上，我們自然地就會朝陰涼的蔭影處聚集、或者在寒冷的冬日裡，會群聚在空間中較溫暖的角落。透過這些因身體感受自然而然做出的行動，就能清楚表現出人們與自然能量──如熱能量、氣壓、濕度等之間的關係。
 
　　無論是在建築物內或是都市空間裡，人們在空間的行動往往就取決於如何利用空間中這些自然流動的能量、與之互動。
 
　　本書提出的問題是：
　　什麼樣的形式與空間樣貌，最能夠讓這些自然能量適恰發揮？
　　而我們是否能從這些自然力運作的邏輯中學習、並進而將其運用於都市環境中？
 
　　本書作者ROEWU建築工作室認為，建築的最原始起點即是來自建造遮風避雨的庇護所；開啟建築設計可能的，正是對人們所處大氣環境的探索。「氣象學」作為一門連結個人與地球互動的學問，對研究建築性能與可能是再好不過的取徑；他們也認為，「形成」（Formation）比起「形式」 （Form）要來得更關鍵而重要──因為，「形成」是物質與大氣互動時形式或形狀的生成過程，就如同雲的形成即是來自應對大氣微妙變化的敏感反應。而建築設計的「形成」並不僅是透過技術來解決機能問題，而更需要善用、回應這些可見／不可見的大氣效應來探索空間、進而創造空間。
 
　　全書以五種大氣效應──熱、風、光、氣壓、雪等做為引題，帶出九個設計個案及一個實驗教學案，希望透過對氣候形成潛能的整合研究以發展出一套「建築氣象學」。

作者簡介

ROEWU architecture
 
　　ROEWU是一個國際化的建築工作坊。由愛爾蘭建築師Stephen Roe和台灣建築師Chiafang Wu合作組成，工作室在2004年於美國紐約成立，目前設立於英國倫敦。ROEWU在2005年贏得美國青年建築師獎，並且陸續得到不同競圖獎項，也代表英國參與北京2006建築雙年展。工作室並重實驗與實務、理論與設計，目前在台灣、愛爾蘭與英國進行不同案子。兩位主持人都曾在美國紐約、俄亥俄州和英國建築聯盟教授建築設計。
 
　　Coming from two small islands located in the turbulent zones where continents and oceans meet, both of the partners in ROEWU grew up immersed in changing and volatile weather. This experience has stayed with them in their w­ork which explores the multiple intersections of climate and architecture.
 
　　Currently based in London the office is a collaboration between Stephen Roe (from Ireland) and Chiafang Wu (from Taiwan). They have won many awards including the Young Architects Award from the Architectural League of New York, First Prize in the Competition for Ephemeral Structures for the Olympics, the Kalil Fellowship for Smart Design and the Kevin Kieran Award from the Arts Council of Ireland, among others. The office has represented the UK at the  Beijing Biennale, and is currently undertaking a projects in Europe and Asia.
 
　　The partners have taught and carried out research at schools in the US, the UK and Asia focussing mainly on the weather, digital technologies and qualitative relations between buildings and their environments. Both partners have been Emerging Practitioner Fellows at Ohio State University and have also taught in Taiwan and at the Architectural Association in London.
